Trash Pandas Edge Past Gangsters, 6-5
|
Fans watched the Toronto Trash Pandas and the Chicago Gangsters fight to the finish.
The Toronto Trash Pandas besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Chicago first baseman Mike Gohlke by beating the Gangsters, 6-5, at The Hideout. Gohlke was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jay Waltman earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for D.J. Van Diest? The two-time All-Star Van Diest stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Toronto up, 6-5. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Van Diest. "And not try to do too much."
The Trash Pandas, now 2-0, have hit the ground running this season.
