Fleet Upend Gladiators, 7-3
|
The San Diego Fleet defeated the Phoenix Gladiators, 7-3, at Gladiators Ballpark. Jon Pitts, who finished 4th in the NC in RBI with 85 in 2014, was a standout performer for San Diego. His 3 hits included 1 single and 2 doubles -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 2 he knocked in. Felipe Ayala earned the win to go to 2-1. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. Jeff Adams closed it out for his 2nd save.
Paul Pittman had a big run-scoring double for the Fleet in the top of the third inning. With San Diego leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Mike Walsh and swatted a double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Fleet ahead, 3-1.
"I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said Pitts.
The victory makes San Diego 8-9.
