Win Lifts Mounties to 9-8
|
The Vancouver Mounties racked up a win at Gladiators Ballpark, bumping off the Phoenix Gladiators, 5-3. Ryan Heyer, who started for Vancouver, pitched effectively for his team. Vancouver reliever Eric Sawyer picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Tony Armijo was saddled with the loss. Earning his 5th save of the year was Chris Brown.
Vancouver used a timely hit from Brian Massey to get the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mounties ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Massey.
The Gladiators fall to 8-9 and continue their wobbly start to the 2022 season.
