The performance of Mark Payne proved critical in helping Indianapolis beat Mexico City, 9-2. The Eagles first baseman was 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Paul Mitchell got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 6.1 innings. The win brings the Eagles to 6-10, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.

Mike Dallis had a big run-scoring double for the Eagles in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Indianapolis leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from Steve Pikula, who finished 5th in the NC in innings pitched with 231.1 last year, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 3-1.

"What a lackluster performance," lamented losing manager Kyle Caito.
