Nightmare Sunk by Maroons
|
The Montreal Maroons knocked off the New York Nightmare, 7-4, in American Conference action at Expo 67 Stadium. Montreal pitcher and Virginia Beach, Virginia, native Phil Dalton had an outstanding performance. New York, with the loss, is still a hardy 9-4.
Pete Kincaid had a big bases-clearing double for the Maroons in the bottom of the first inning. With Montreal leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a knuckle curve from Andy Shoemaker, who is a two-time All-Star, and swatted a double to right. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Maroons ahead, 5-0.
"Phil executed his pitches at a high level," said Montreal manager Jason Weber.
