Yule Blasts Fleet, Sea Dogs Take Game 1, 5-3
The Charleston Sea Dogs started the Championship Series in style, winning on the road against the San Diego Fleet at Peter Seidler Memorial Stadium by a score of 5-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Sea Dogs third baseman Jeff Yule excelled. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Nelson Ziersch? The Charleston left fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Sea Dogs on top, 2-1. For the game, Ziersch had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

Ziersch called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
