Wildcard Game Game 1 Victory for Keener and Phoenix
|
The Phoenix Gladiators powered past the visiting Austin Desperados, 3-2, in the opener of the Wildcard Game at Gladiators Ballpark. Phoenix starting pitcher Johnny Keener threw 5.0 innings of 4-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Gladiators now lead the series 1-0.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Gladiators had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when designated hitter Zack Husley hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Sam Campos and made the score 3-2, Gladiators. Husley was 1-4.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Austin manager Tim Ward. "We just didn't cash in."
The next game is set to be played for Saturday, September 27th , 2025 at Dell Diamond in Austin.
