Winchester Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
The Winchester Mountaineers got a strong game from starter Chris Verellen, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.

The Mountaineers took the 3-2 win over the Riverside Rotters in Game 2 of the Division Series in a 9th inning walk-off. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Verellen. Verellen threw 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs in the win, which gave the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, an error by the Rotters allowed the Mountaineers to score the winning run.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Hankins.

Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at Rotters Ballpark in Riverside.
