Tirado, Royals Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
|
The Cornwall Royals started the Division Series in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Hamilton Bulldogs in a walk-off in the 12th inning. Cornwall took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter David Tirado. The right-hander threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball in the win, which gave the Royals a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.
The decisive blow was delivered by Frank Babb in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a solo home run off 20-year old left-handed pitcher Colby Kelly to win the game for Cornwall. The home crowd went nuts.
"We did just enough to win," Tirado said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at King George Park in Cornwall.
