Captains Win in Extras, 7-4
|
The Tampa Bay Captains clipped the Chicago Gangsters, 7-4, in 13 innings at The Hideout. The standout performance belonged to Tampa Bay pitcher and Trenton, Michigan, native Phil Gregoire. Tampa Bay reliever Justin Berardi snagged the win, upping his record to 1-3. Phil Dalton shouldered the loss. Tony Gutierrez picked up the save for Tampa Bay, his 3rd of the year.
Tampa Bay won the game in part because of Marcus Greene. The designated hitter ripped a run-scoring double in the top of the 13th inning to put the Captains ahead, 5-4. For the game, Greene had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"It's about putting our team in the best position to win ballgames," said Gregoire.
Tampa Bay, at 44-64, holds down third place in the American Conference Central Division.
