Giants Take Nail-Biter Over 23ers
Steve McLaughlin left his imprint on the 9-5 Detroit win against the Fountain Hills 23ers. McLaughlin, who finished 2nd in the AC in RBI with 110 last year, went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. The win was credited to 26-year old left-handed pitcher Heath Maughn in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Jaheim Johnson took the loss. Detroit raised its record to 60-48 with the win.

Angelo Mejia played the role of hero for Detroit. In the bottom of the 11th, he launched a grand slam home run off Jaheim Johnson to win the game. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was the decisive blow.

"Our team showed some gumption," said Mejia. "I like it."
