Oakland Defeated By Sea Dogs, 5-3
|
The Charleston Sea Dogs besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Oakland shortstop Jim Henkemeyer by beating the Invaders, 5-3, at Ballpark of Charleston. Henkemeyer went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Mario Barillas, credited with the save, is now 7 for 9 in save opportunities. Charleston has an impressive 74-34 record.
Juan Ortiz, who led the NC in extra base hits with 103 in 2023, took Oakland hurler Isaiah Sanders deep in the bottom of the third. His 3-run home run put the Sea Dogs on top, 4-3. In all, Ortiz had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Ortiz.
