The Syracuse Scorpions turned back the Tampa Bay Captains, 6-5, at Ahoy Park. Bobby Tapia, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Jared Hall, who is tied for 4th in the AC in holds with 6, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 4-3. John Landgren got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
Syracuse used the timely hitting of Billy Totten to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Scorpions on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We ground out the win," said Totten. "That's all that matters."
Syracuse now sports a record of 43-63.
