The San Francisco Fire faced a tough opponent in Hollywood pitcher Josh Reed, but did just enough to pull out the victory at San Francisco Grounds by a final score of 6-5. Reed went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs. Gordie Clifford, 2-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. The Fire sport a record of 38-63.
San Francisco took the lead, 6-5, on Willie Villegas's 13th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Hollywood pitcher Pat Eisen in the bottom of the eighth.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Hollywood manager Sean Simmers. "The effort was great."
