Invaders Get Hard-Earned Win
|
Oakland designated hitter Juan Ortiz contributed significantly to his team's 5-4 win over the Carolina Reapers. Ortiz, who led the NC in triples with 13 last year, went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Invaders. Oakland reliever John Salgado picked up the win, raising his record to 4-5. Andy Hannah was tagged with the loss. The Invaders, at 58-43, have now won 4 straight.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Oakland left fielder John Piscitelli, facing Andy Hannah, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Invaders the 5-4 win.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Piscitelli told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
