Felipe Ayala, who finished 2nd in the AC in ERA with 2.91 in 2019, was locked in. The right-hander led the San Diego Fleet to a 4-3 win against the Mexico City Aztecs at Peter Seidler Memorial Stadium. The Fleet have a one-game lead in the National Conference West Division.

Had Alfonso Sanchez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Sanchez hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Fleet.

"I was able to fill up the zone," said Ayala.
