The Santa Ana Black Aces got a good effort from starter Engo Hirai in defeating the Newport Unicorns at Chanticleers Ballpark. The final score was 5-2. Hirai yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 3-4. Chris Williams locked down his 6th save.

Kevin Pizzuti came through with a big-time hit for Santa Ana. The catcher smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"It wasn't a very good day at the ballpark," said Newport manager Victor Sepulveda.

The win gives Santa Ana a season record of 25-16.
