Carolina Defeated By Royals, 8-1
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 25-year old left fielder Eric Hayes, the Cincinnati Royals defeated the Carolina Reapers, 8-1. Josh Huggins, the 3rd overall pick in the 2020 draft, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed no runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. The Royals saw their win-loss record go to 59-39. At the same time, the Reapers fell to 39-59.
Early in the game, designated hitter Andrew Baltzley had a bases-clearing double for Cincinnati. It was his 5th double of the season and put the Royals on top, 3-0.
Said losing manager Julio Rodriguez: "At the end of the day, we've got to play better."
