Oscar Malave, who is tied for 5th in the NC in quality starts with 13, never let the Gladiators get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Stars to a win, 2-0. Hollywood reliever Jason Hollenbeck snagged the win, upping his record to 5-4. Ricardo Grados shouldered the loss. Hollywood is now 48-50, Phoenix 56-42.

Hollywood used a timely hit from Elijah Moody to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Stars ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.

"Our pitching was the difference tonight," Malave said.
