Pines Pull Out Late Win, 3-2
|
The Maine Pines, despite a fine performance by Sandusky pitcher Kevin Daniels, grabbed a 3-2 win at Seagull Park. Daniels allowed 2 runs over 7.1 innings. The win was credited to two-time All-Star Dan Mills in relief. His record improves to 4-4. Jose Betancourt took the loss. Picking up the save was 23-year old left-handed pitcher Matt Williams.
Maine won the game in part because of Jimmy Frew. The center fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pines ahead, 3-2. For the game, Frew had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Sandusky skipper Kyle Caito, "and it cost us."
The National Conference North East Division-leading Pines have a record of 63-34.
