5 Straight Wins for Aztecs

The Mexico City Aztecs defeated the Halifax Heathens, 7-4, in National Conference action at Estadio Azteca. Mexico City pitcher John Manship had a standout performance. Manship, now 7-8, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Jeff Cox collected his 24th save.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Danny Velasquez? The Mexico City shortstop had a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Aztecs on top, 1-0. For the game, Velasquez had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Mexico City manager Pete Clark.
Mexico City has now won 5 straight.
