Nightmare Lose to Captains, 9-6
|
Ben Callahan did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the New York Nightmare from being beaten, 9-6, to the Tampa Bay Captains at Ahoy Park. Callahan was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Matt Jackson got credit for the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.2 innings. Ray Rorie, who finished 2nd in the NC in wins with 18 in 2018, nailed down the save.
Kyle Gooch had a big 2-run double for the Captains in the bottom of the third inning. With Tampa Bay leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from 29-year old left-handed pitcher Joe Schroeder and swatted a double to left. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Captains ahead, 3-0.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Gooch.
Tampa Bay is now 44-53. New York is 42-55.
