Torpedoes Suffer One-Run Loss at Whitby
Todd Gordon added some punch to the Whitby offense, helping them outmuscle the Long Island Torpedoes, 8-7. In the game, Gordon went 2-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Ramiro Rodriguez, now 6-3, was credited with the win in 3.1 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 1. The second-place Bats lifted their record to 84-45.

In the bottom of the 5th, Whitby took the lead on a grand slam home run by Tony Sanchez. At the time, the Bats were trailing 6-4, but Sanchez's hit with two outs against Long Island pitcher Bruno Guarani put them in front, 8-6.

"This was a nice win for us," said Gordon. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
