Marauders Sneak Past Whistlers, 5-4
|
The Philadelphia Marauders polished off the Boston Whistlers by the score of 5-4. The largest share of the credit belonged to shortstop Johnny McCargar. McCargar went 4-4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 runs for the Marauders. Chris Jacoby, now 3-4, was credited with the win in 0.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. With the win, Philadelphia raised its record to 57-40.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Philadelphia catcher Chris Van Noort, facing Josh Becker, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Marauders the 5-4 win.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Van Noort, "and then get after it again."
