Trash Pandas Lose to Sea Turtles, 7-4
|
Daytona Beach designated hitter Clark Owens made his presence felt in the 7-4 Sea Turtles triumph over the Toronto Trash Pandas. Owens was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Mal Burkes earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. David Rogers notched his 20th save in 26 chances.
Owens contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Daytona Beach in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Owens took a cutter from Sergio Penichet and stroked the home run to left-center. His 11th home run of the season allowed the Sea Turtles to leap in front, 3-1.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Owens, "and then get after it again."
By defeating Toronto, the third-place Sea Turtles improved to 41-55.
