The Buffalo Bellflowers beat the Abingdon Archers, 5-1, at Wegman's Field. Starting pitcher David Hernandez was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. In 8.1 innings, Hernandez surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. With the win, Buffalo goes to 57-45, while the Archers fall to 34-68.
Derek Vance dealt the Archers a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Buffalo leading 1-0, Vance, who is tied for 10th in the NC in doubles with 13, hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"I was just taking it batter by batter, just enjoying the moment," said Hernandez.
