Phantoms Pull Even With 3-2 Victory
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Pittsburgh Phantoms got the win.
Pittsburgh rode a fine outing from starter Mario Salazar to victory over the San Francisco Fire at San Francisco Grounds. The final score was 3-2. Salazar, now 9-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Jeff Buck earned the save for Pittsburgh, his 10th of the year.
The Phantoms got a big at-bat from first baseman Keagan Deming. For the game, Deming went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said San Francisco manager Walt DeRosier. "But we decided not to take it."
The Fire, at 50-45, have lost 5 in a row.
