Mounties Rough Up Colonels, Take 14-1 Win
|
The Moncton Mounties put together a convincing win at Field of the Colonels, defeating the Tiverton Colonels, 14-1. Adam Conrad was one of the hitting stars. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for Moncton. The winner was Manuel Cristerna, who threw 85 pitches over 5.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with no runs on 4 hits. Cory Newton closed the game out for Moncton, earning his 1st save.
With Moncton leading 8-1 in the top of the ninth, Conrad batted against Tiverton pitcher Jim Unknown. Conrad hit a fastball to left for a grand slam home run. His 2nd home run of the season put the Mounties on top, 12-1.
Said Tiverton manager Dave Maloney after the blowout loss: "They did pretty much every facet of the game better than we did and that's why we lost."
At 36-38, the Mounties find themselves in third place in the Northern Conference East Division.
