Marauders Take Down Eagles, 8-5
The Indianapolis Eagles could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Ray Dappen into a win. Instead, the Philadelphia Marauders prevailed, 8-5, in 11 innings. Dappen threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Vince Mellon, now 4-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The first-place Marauders, at 58-36, now lead their division by 10½ games.

In the top of the 11th, Danny Pierce, who finished 2nd in the AC in OPS with .908 in 2021, delivered for Philadelphia. That's when he belted a 3-run home run, putting the Marauders up, 8-5. It was his lone hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a climactic one.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Philadelphia manager Danny Ordaz.
