Heathens Paste 2-1 Loss on Fleet
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Halifax Heathens and the San Diego Fleet, Jack Ivory, who is tied for 5th in the AC with a 1.05 WHIP, proved to be the difference. The Halifax left-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Heathens win. Halifax raised its record to 62-30 with the win.
The Fleet had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Heathens going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old second baseman Chance Smith came to the plate. Smith hit a solo home run on a 1-0 changeup from San Diego hurler Rodrigo Lemus. It was Smith's 12th home run of the year.
Halifax manager David Morris commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
