Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Austin Desperados and San Francisco Fire.

San Francisco got a decent performance from pitcher Pat Daughtry, but it wasn't enough to beat the Austin Desperados. Austin won the San Francisco Grounds contest, 6-5. Daughtry threw 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. Joe McLaughlin, now 2-1, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Bob Baucke earned the save, his 23rd, for the Desperados.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Ruben Alamo? The 24-year old shortstop Alamo stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Austin up, 6-4. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Desperados manager Adam Ponder.

The second-place Desperados hiked their record to 54-38.
