Scorpions Drop Nightmare, 8-5, with Late Score
|
Scorpions designated hitter Danny Hammang left his imprint on his team's 8-5 win over the New York Nightmare. Hammang went 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4 for Syracuse in the contest. The win belonged to John Landgren in relief. His record improves to 7-7. Sean Foye took the loss for New York. The win puts the Scorpions at 46-45, while the Nightmare drop to 44-47.
The Nightmare had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Scorpions going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the five-time All-Star Bobby Tapia came to the plate. Tapia hit a bases-clearing double on a 0-1 fastball from New York hurler Howie Freel. It was Tapia's 14th double of the year.
"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," Tapia told the Syracuse Daily.
