Vancouver Drops Another One, 9-4
|
The Phoenix Gladiators powered past the Vancouver Mounties, 9-4, at Mounties Field. Ton Ariëns went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times, to lead the charge. Oscar Malave, who is tied for 2nd in the AC in wins with 9, was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Hector Berrios locked down his 5th save.
Zack Husley, the 20th overall pick in the 2021 draft, aided the Phoenix cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the second. For the game, the second baseman was 2-4 with 2 singles and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs.
"Everyone's kind of edgy right now," said losing manager Zaire Hyde, "but nothing a couple of wins wouldn't cure."
The losses continue to mount for Vancouver, which has now dropped 7 in a row.
