Marshalls Clip Stampede, 3-2, in DS Contest
|
The Fremont Marshalls got a strong game from starter Mike Martinez, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Marshalls took the 3-2 win over the Lubbock Stampede in Game 2 of the Division Series in a 10th inning walk-off. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Martinez. Martinez threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball in the win, which brought the Marshalls into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-7 series.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, 28-year old center fielder Jaiden Jones had a real shot to win the game. Lubbock pitcher Nick Wolfe was determined not to let it happen. But with no outs, Jones hit a run-scoring single. The Marshalls had a walk-off triumph.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Fremont manager Matt Blade.
Game 3 is scheduled for Wednesday at Reagor Dykes Stadium in Lubbock.
