Captains Roll to 8-2 Win Over Giants
|
The Detroit Giants went down to defeat to Bobby Purdy and his Tampa Bay teammates. The final score was 8-2, in favor of the Captains. Purdy got the win, improving to 5-10. He gave up 5 hits and walked 2 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Mike Grotjohn picked up his 1st save of the season.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Tom Gammill was at the plate when Tampa Bay scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Captains to go in front, 4-2.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Gammill said after the game.
The Captains raised their record to 36-53.
