Mounties Thwart Colonels, 3-1

The bats were silent much of the day at Mapleton Yards. But 21-year old center fielder Antonio Salais produced just enough offense to carry the Mounties past the Tiverton Colonels, 3-1. Salais went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. John Sherline earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-2. Colin Andrus picked up the save for Moncton, his 3rd of the year.
Salais contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Moncton in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Salais took a splitter from Jim Unknown and stroked the home run to right. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Mounties to leap in front, 3-1.
"I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said Salais.
The loss makes Tiverton 18-25.
