Antonio Higuera never let Detroit get something going. The Boston right-hander commanded his curveball in pitching the Whistlers to a 2-1 win. Higuera, now 5-6, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 8, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Boston raised its record to 46-42 with the win.

Austin Alpers had a big run-scoring double for the Whistlers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from Beau Larson, who is rated as the 62nd best prospect by BNN, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Whistlers ahead, 2-0.

Boston manager Ben Foster commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
