Eagles Nip Nightmare, 2-1
|
The Indianapolis Eagles had to overcome a fine effort from New York pitcher Marcos Cerda to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Nightmare Stadium. Cerda went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. The last-place Nightmare have dropped 4 straight games.
Runs were few and far between in this one. So, Gene Wenzel's at-bat with one out in the top of the tenth was crucial. The Indianapolis designated hitter hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 2-1 lead.
"We did just enough to win," Wenzel said.
