Gladiators Score Late to Beat Fire, 5-4
|
Though he had a stellar game, Dusty Ward could not prevent his team, the San Francisco Fire, from losing, 5-4, to the Phoenix Gladiators. Ward went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He scored 3 runs. The Gladiators go to 43-44, putting them third in the American Conference South Division.
Victor Gonzalez, who finished 5th in the AC in home runs with 34 in 2011, helped out the Phoenix cause in the bottom of the eighth inning with a run-scoring triple. For the game, the right fielder went 1-4 with a triple.
"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Gonzalez told the Phoenix Bulletin.
