Heathens Turn Back Fleet, 4-2
|
The San Diego Fleet could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jesse Vecchio into a win. Instead, the Halifax Heathens prevailed, 4-2. Vecchio came in in relief and pitched to 17 batters. Jack Ivory earned the win for Halifax. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing no runs on 5 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 8-6. With this game in the books, Halifax is 45-41, San Diego 50-36.
The Heathens had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 4-2, Halifax, with no one out. San Diego, with the bases empty, was mounting a threat. Jacob Kennedy dug in at the plate, but on a full count fastball, he struck out.
