Whistlers Solve Nightmare, 5-2
|
The Boston Whistlers picked up a win at Nightmare Stadium, knocking off the New York Nightmare, 5-2. Starting pitcher Jay Helm was a big reason why. Helm, now 7-6, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 9, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. The first-place Whistlers improved to 44-42.
Keith Roberts dealt the Nightmare a blow in the top of the fourth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Boston leading 2-1, Roberts hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single.
"Jay gave us everything he had," said Boston manager Ben Foster.
