Shiners Lose Despite Valiant Effort by Ziersch
The Charleston Shiners got a sterling performance from left fielder Nelson Ziersch, but the Indianapolis Eagles still prevailed, 14-12. Ziersch was 2-3 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 2. The save was credited to Vince Rice, his 16th. The setback makes Charleston 44-41.

An inflection point occurred with one out in the bottom of the eighth. That's when Eagles shortstop Alex Sanchez hit a fastball from Todd Thompson for a 2-run single. Just like that, Indianapolis was up, 13-12.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Eagles manager Pete DuBay.
