Hits Galore: Martinez Drills 5 Hits Wednesday, August 28th , 2024 The Newport News Wranglers stopped the Montgomery Missions by a score of 16-13 at Wranglers Stadium, with the lion's share of the credit going to left fielder Jose Martinez. The 20-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits. "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Martinez said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard." Martinez did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Missions. "Not much that I can say," offered Montgomery manager Hoa Nguyen-Dinh. "He just hammered the heck out of us." Jose Martinez grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Mike Gentry in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Mike Gentry in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
