Dean Torches Naturals for 5 Hits
Thursday, August 8th , 2024
After a 5-hit effort to lead Little Rock's 9-3 victory over the Greensboro Naturals, third baseman Matt Dean told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the ABA Class A--level is really something special."

The 22-year-old player earned his accolades at Little Rock Grounds with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Naturals.

"His swing is getting there," said Golden Gophers skipper Michael Kelleher, who spoke glowingly of Dean after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Matt did that to perfection."

Matt Dean hit a solo-shot off Rafael Estrada in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Gerardo Mendoza in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

This season, Dean is swinging the bat at a .333 pace. He has hit 12 home runs and scored 47 times, while driving in 38. His on-base percentage is .428 and he has played in 44 games.
