Great Day for Schmitt -- 5 Hits
Tuesday, June 18th , 2024
After a 5-hit effort to lead Sikeston's 12-4 victory over the South Pasadena Air Riders, second baseman Toby Schmitt told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the ABA Class A--level is really something special."
The 21-year-old player earned his accolades at Air Riders Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Air Riders.
"His swing is getting there," said Shamrocks skipper William Antczak, who spoke glowingly of Schmitt after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Toby did that to perfection."
Toby Schmitt singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Cody Kucharski in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Jorge Jacome in the 9th.
For the year, Schmitt is hitting .424 with 2 home runs. His stats include 7 RBI and 6 runs scored.
