Red-Hot Bat: Lirette Collects Cycle Saturday, June 8th , 2024 In an outing that will go down in the annals of league history, Newport News third baseman Curt Lirette hit for the cycle, as the Wranglers marched to victory over the Anaheim Music, 8-5. Lirette collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, including 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run. He added 4 RBI and 2 runs scored to help Newport News take the Wranglers Stadium contest. "It was the last thing on my mind, really," Lirette said. "I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Even if I had wanted to, hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill anyway." Curt Lirette doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, struck out in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 8th.
