Cordova Pitches 6-0 Shutout
Saturday, June 11th , 2022
Jon Cordova of the Tiverton Colonels was on top of his game.
The 20-year-old tantalized the Lincoln Princes with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 6-0.
"He had the changeup working," Lincoln manager Jorge Vasquez said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Tiverton hurler had 8 strikeouts, gave up 4 walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Cordova told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This season, Cordova has compiled a 4-1 mark with a 3.27 ERA in 17 starts.
