Benitez Torches Suns for 5 Hits
Saturday, April 24th , 2021
Plymouth shortstop Max Benitez went down swinging at Madison Grounds, knocking out 5 hits even as his Rockers fell, 15-8.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Benitez said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Moriarty Suns. "No offense meant to Moriarty, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the shortstop's improvements, saying Benitez spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Benitez agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Max Benitez singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Juan del Rio in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Juan del Rio in the 5th, doubled in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.
This year, Benitez is batting .444 with 12 hits, 5 home runs, 9 RBIs, 1 walk, .464 OBP and has scored 7 runs.
