Smashing Success: David Wallops 3 HR
Sunday, April 18th , 2021
Moriarty Suns first baseman Corey David put on a dazzling display of power at Mapleton Yards against the Moncton Mounties. In the 11-8 Suns victory, David penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Moncton manager Kevin Squillace said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 20-year-old had 3 hits in 7 at-bats, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," David said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Corey David hit a solo-shot off Tarjei Wiese in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Colin Andrus in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, struck out in the 9th, grounded out in the 11th and hit a three-run home run off Juan Gutierrez in the 13th.
This year, David has hit at a .300 clip with 12 hits, 6 home runs, 11 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
