The manager of the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes said he thinks Troy Nelson is only going to get better as he gets older.

He may only be 20, but it will be hard to top the shortstop's 2026 campaign, as he has been named the winner of the Southern Conference Most Valuable Player Award.

His winning campaign featured a .501 batting average and a .570 on-base percentage this year. In 129 games he piled up 276 hits, 65 doubles, 9 triples, 37 home runs, 178 RBIs and 176 runs scored.

He received 23 first place votes out of a possible 24. Chris Norwood of the Juneau Sled Dogs finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while John Breshears of the Juneau Sled Dogs finished third.
