Montez Scoops up SC Top Hurler Award Tuesday, October 17th , 2023 Edwin Montez of the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes will be adding a new centerpiece to his mantel after being tabbed for the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year Award today. The 23-year-old hurler started 26 games this season, tallying a 13-2 record. In 129 innings, Montez gave up 86 hits, struck out 125, walked 20 and held opponents to a .185 average as he posted a fine 2.51 ERA. He received 15 first place votes out of a possible 24. Steve Dunn of the Haviland Thrashers finished second in voting with 8 first place votes, while Matt Osborne of the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes finished third with 1 first place vote.
