Saint Pierre and Miquelon Stops Ortega Hit Streak Saturday, August 29th , 2026 Borrego Springs left fielder Luis Ortega went 0-for-3 in Borrego Springs's 9-4 triumph over the Saint Pierre and Miquelon Pirates, snapping his 30-game hitting streak. Ortega spoke to BNN after the game and said he "knew the hitting streak would end sooner or later." "I just would have preferred later," he said with a laugh. "It was fun though." When Ortega made an out in his last chance at the plate, his teammates congratulated him in the dugout. In the clubhouse after the game, he seemed unbothered by the streak ending. "There's nothing scientific about it, that's for sure," Pirates manager Mike White said of Ortega's streak. "He had a nice little run. Let him start another one when we finish the series here." This season, Ortega is swinging the bat at a .507 pace. He has hit 33 home runs and scored 99 times, while driving in 107. His on-base percentage is .575 and he has played in 65 games. |
